International Launch of New Unscripted Formats
France tv distribution strengthens its line-up with the acquisition of two high-potential new formats: "The Great Knowledge Challenge" and "Lettrix", while celebrating the global success of the game show format "Letters and Numbers".
The rights to these formats are available worldwide.
The Great Knowledge Challenge
The Great Knowledge Challenge is an iconic radio game show that has been around for over 60 years, now a successful television format.
Contestants answer general knowledge questions to try to win up to €1000.
The television version features 10 teams, along with a champion duo, who compete in two rounds followed by a final. Viewers can participate by playing live and submitting their own questions.
What sets "The Great Knowledge Challenge" apart is its regional focus: it’s a show that celebrates the different departments across France.
Lettrix
Lettrix is a new game concept where players must figure out the missing letter in a word to form another.
Speed and strategy are key: the first to find the letter and stay focused, despite the traps, will score the most points.
The game takes place over three rounds and stands out with its strong graphic identity and real visual and auditory interactivity.
Success of the Letters and Numbers format
Concept
The French original format is a 30-minute show with a simple formula where contestants have a limited time to solve a problem involving letters or numbers.
Letters and Numbers, one of France TV’s most iconic programs, has also achieved resounding international success. The format has made a notable impact in several territories, including the United Kingdom, Spain, New Zealand, and Australia, where it continues to captivate millions of viewers. The format has also been optioned in numerous territories.
United Kingdom
Launched in 1982, COUNTDOWN was the first program to air on Channel 4. This cult show, which regularly attracts 3 to 4 million viewers, has remained a success for over 45 years. Following the phenomenal success of the English version, Channel 4 created a prime-time celebrity version, CELEBRITY COUNTDOWN.
Spain
The show CIFRAS Y LETRAS was first broadcast in the 1990s on the Segunda channel (the second channel of Spain’s public broadcaster RTVE). In 2024, a completely new version with updated rules, based on the current French version, was produced with the aim of giving the show a fresh look. Hosted by the dynamic Aitor Albizua and featuring an innovative set using new technologies, the show has achieved great success, recording the best ratings in the access prime time slot for over 25 years. The program has just been renewed for a second season. A true societal phenomenon, CIFRAS Y LETRAS has received several industry awards, including Best Writer for a Game show at the 2025 Alma Awards and the 2025 Iris Award.
Paris Unscripted Showcase
As part of the first edition of the Paris Unscripted Showcase, France tv distribution will present these new programs to entertainment industry professionals on April 29, 2025, at 10:00 AM, at the Sofitel Champs Élysées Louise Salon in Paris. This exclusive event will offer a sneak peek at these innovative formats and the opportunity to meet the creative teams behind their success.
